User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:101.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/101.0
Steps to reproduce:
While using Firefox, graphical glitches sometimes appear throughout the webpage and the Firefox UI. There doesn't appear to be any particular trigger.
Actual results:
Graphical glitches include:
- Selected tab isn't highlighted
- Highlight of selected tab is cut off partway along the tab
- In tab name text, letters are partly cut off
- Webpage elements blink in and out when scrolling
- Videos (e.g. Youtube; v.redd.it) rapidly scroll to the left similar to the way VHS tapes sometimes scroll up
In all cases except the video problem, mousing over the affected element temporarily stops the glitch for that element. The video problem is not resolved even by restarting Firefox; the computer has to be rebooted.
Expected results:
The graphical glitches are annoying, especially the video glitch, which makes video unusable until the computer is rebooted.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Core::Performance' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

Hi Michael,
I haven't experienced the issue myself, would you be able to take a screen-recording of the video glitches and post it in a comment below?
Also could you check if this also occurs in troubleshooting mode? Here is a link that can help with that:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/diagnose-firefox-issues-using-troubleshoot-mode
Thank you!

The video glitch does not happen reliably. I'll take a screenshot next time it occurs.
I was unable to reproduce the problem in troubleshooting mode. However, in normal mode, when I tried disabling each of my extensions individually, the problem persisted no matter which extension was disabled.
My extensions are:
- Facebook Container
- Firefox Multi-Account Containers
- Link Cleaner
- Privacy Badger
- uBlock Origin
- Undo Close Tab
I am using the default theme.

Do you also have those glitches? To find out just do from the terminal firefox -p

Issues that I also have/had: ✔️
Issues that I didnt experienced: x
✔️Selected tab isn't highlighted
✔️Highlight of selected tab is cut off partway along the tab
✔️In tab name text, letters are partly cut off
✔️(especially on gitlab) Webpage elements blink in and out when scrolling
x Videos (e.g. Youtube; v.redd.it) rapidly scroll to the left similar to the way VHS tapes sometimes scroll up
(I had some glitches related to videos but It just was one time and I think it was a bug in the App I was using)
Here is a video I took from GitLab
Here is an link for the example MR in the Video: https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab/-/merge_requests/92246/diffs
Do you also get these Glitches on Gitlab reliable?

I don't have the diagonal lines you're seeing. My corrupted text also looks a little different from yours.
My glitches always go away (temporarily) when I hover the mouse over the glitching element. The only exception is the scrolling video. Your half-highlighted tab glitch looked just like mine, but it didn't go away when you hovered over i
Finally, I can reproduce these glitches with just a few open tabs.

According to your about:support, you are using an older version of the NVIDIA driver (472.19). Any chance you can update to the current release (516.59) and see if the behavior persists?

Thanks Bob, a problem was blocking automatic driver updates and I wasn't aware. I'm now on 516.59.
Unfortunately, the behavior does persist on the new driver update.

After some examination, it looks like your Intel driver falls within a range that has known issues (see the referenced issue in Kelsey's comment 21 above). We had previously discussed this with the Intel team, and they have issued a fix in more current driver versions. Could you please update your Intel driver version as well and see if that impacts the behavior at all?

Unfortunately I was wrong. The graphical problems are still occurring, and in fact have gotten worse. The scrolling-video problem has not recurred since updating my Intel drivers, but everything else has (see below). Problems 3 and 5 below are especially bad.
I have only observed these problems start while using Firefox. However, some of them persist when switching apps. Once these problems start occurring, they all happen with increasing frequency until the computer is rebooted; restarting Firefox alone doesn't stop them. Below, I've listed fixes for some of the individual glitches, but none of these fixes stop the increase in glitches.
- Tab headers have visual glitches.
- Text is partly or completely missing.
- Edges and corners of tab flicker.
- Hovering over a tab temporarily fixes the problem with that tab.
- Webpage content flickers in and out when scrolling.
- Hovering over a disappeared item makes it reappear.
- Only certain content is affected. I haven't noticed text, gifs, or video affected, but I have seen other images and what I think are CSS boxes around other elements affected.
- Sometimes, while scrolling in Firefox, the bottom half of the screen starts showing a clone of the top half instead of what should appear. This includes the tabs, URL bar, etc. as well as the top of the webpage.
- The cloning is recursive. If I continue to scroll when it happens, I'll see four and then eight copies of the top quarter or eighth of the screen.
- Closing the tab or switching apps temporarily fixes the problem.
- The glitch doesn't show up in screenshots; they look normal. The next time it happens, I will take a picture of the computer screen with my phone.
- The mouse gets fuzzy around the edges, as though being drawn twice with a slight offset.
- Once, when this started in Firefox, I switched to another app that used a custom cursor. That app's cursor was also affected.
- There is no temporary fix; the computer has to be rebooted.
- Gifs get fuzzy on the horizontal axis, as though being lightly jostled from side to side.
- This problem comes in for only a few seconds at a time and then goes away for seconds or minutes, making it hard to identify what exactly is happening on a pixel level.

I'm also getting these weird glitches on the IGPU on a ryzen 7xxxx system, The latest AMD Drivers are also installed, if i let windows switch over to the high performance Adapter (3080) the glitches go away.

All the glitches I reported above have been gone for a few months. I'm guessing a graphics driver update fixed it.
