User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:102.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/102.0
Steps to reproduce:
I opened the Firefox / Firefox Developer version from my Windows 11 Home Edition.
Actual results:
Firefox showed a notice to update the Firefox / Firefox Developer version.
I followed the download link and installed the new (!) version. Then opened the firefox again and see the notice again.
Expected results:
I should have seen a update notice if the auto update is disabled, or if it really requires to update the firefox. But I have seed the update notice while running the latest version of the firefox

Hi, thanks for filing this!
A few questions and clarifications:
- What day did this happen on, if you remember? We released 103.0b3 before you filed this bug, so it's possible there was an update available at the time you experienced this.
- In your screenshot, is that the same instance of Firefox claiming to be up-to-date and showing you an update is available in the hamburger menu? (It's very strange that they don't agree, so I want to be very sure I understand what I'm seeing.)
- Can you attach your update logs, please? They should be in
C:\ProgramData\Mozilla-1de4eec8-1241-4177-a864-e594e8d1fb38\updates(if you could zip up the whole contents of that directory it would be lovely). - Please set
app.update.logto True inabout:config. If you see this again, open the Browser Console either with the hotkey Control+Shift+J and paste anyAUS:SVCmessages into this bug.
Thanks for looking into the bug.
- I got the bug a day or two before I posted this bug, which is two weeks back from today.
- This is the main point of this bug that it is asking me to updated but auto update and manually checking not working.
- Zip directory is around 60mb, could not upload here.
- I enabled the update log.

OK, that's good to know -- it's possible that the "up to date" in the screenshot was accurate at the time.

I'm a bit unclear on what exactly happened. I think what you're saying is
- You got the "Update available -- download now" message
- You clicked it, and it applied the automatic update (as opposed to having you download and install Firefox again)
- After you restarted for the update, the message was still there, and no update was found in the About dialog (the state shown in the attached screenshot).
- Zip directory is around 60mb, could not upload here.
Darn. The most relevant files there are the updates.xml (which will be in one or more subdirectories). Could you attach any of those that exist instead?
- I enabled the update log.
Thanks!

I faced the issue even today. I attached two new screenshots here.

This is how i found this issue:
- I opened the Firefox dev on my Windows 11
- it shows a bubble from the top right menu that "Firefox can not update automatically. Download new version ..."
- I clicked on the link, downloaded and installed new version.
- when i opened the browser again it showed the same notification bubble to update manually.
- Then I opened the about page and tried to be sure which version actually i am using, at that time it showed me that I am using the latest version.
thanks

Thank you for the additional information.
At this point, I think we need to see the update logs to try to figure this out. Try this:
- Navigate to
about:support - Find the "Update Folder" entry and click "Open Folder".
- Zip up the contents of this folder (it should be fairly small in size) and attach to this bug
If the zip file happens to be too large to attach, you can instead attach updates.xml, updates\last-update.log, and updates\backup-update.log.
The total update directory is around 60mb so here I have added only your mentioned files.

If you ever see this now that you have app.update.log true set - the Browser Console output would be very helpful here -- but I'm not particularly concerned about this. Update checks can fail for various reasons, and the fallback is to ask you to reinstall.
The mismatch in state between the About dialog and the hamburger menu is definitely a real bug though, and somewhat similar to https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1774341.
