Steps to reproduce:

Open Preferences > Calendar. The options for (UK) Date Format are Long (DDDD dd MMMM yyyyy) and short (dd/mm/yyyy). There is no option to use an abbreviated Date Format - e.g. DDD dd MMM yyyy)

Actual results:

As above, chose one of the too limited range of choices

Expected results:

Should have been able to choose one of the briefer, abbreviated Date Formats.
