Supporting hardware video playback overlays with software WebRender may be crucial for a significant number of users who are unable to update their graphics drivers.

We often add older graphics drivers (10+ years old) to the hardware block-list due to glitches in rendering web pages with our complex shaders, but this has a very negative impact on video playback performance, so it would be ideal to continue using the hardware video overlays in combination with software WebRender.
