Perhaps a dupe of bug 1575063?

Version: Firefox 103 → Trunk

Still an issue in 111.0.1 Win10 64-bit. 1575063 looks like a dupe, although I'd say the title on this one is more accurate since it doesn't require a hard reset like 1575063 claims, just editing then saving another shortcut.

Duplicate of this bug: 1575063
Summary: Custom image added to shortcut only appears after changing another shortcut → Custom image added to shortcut only appears after another shortcut change

I wonder if all these disparate bugs that were coalesced into this one are really referring to the same issue. Bug 1485379 was declared to be a duplicate of 1935854 and with that of this one. Is this really a correct assessment?

I am now at version 133.0.3. I believe at this point that the icons (ones with custom icon URL) are ONLY reloaded on initial start of Firefox on a given calendar DAY. They seem to stay in cache throughout the day, even if I completely close Firefox and restart. Why is the stale period only 24 hours?

Custom icons are made custom because the user wants them to be permanent. I think that idea escapes the developers because they want for the page to be dynamic with new icons showing up all the time. I set up my page to be static i.e. I do not allow any icons other than my chosen set. That's why I use custom icons at all. Some favicons look horrible in their 16x16 resolution so they are completely unsuitable for static display.

Monica, I can't reproduce this with Nightly on Windows 10 anymore. It seems that someone has finally fixed it.

Please double-check it with this image: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/66/Mozilla_Firefox_0.8_logo.svg/120px-Mozilla_Firefox_0.8_logo.svg.png .

I am not able to reproduce it either on Win11x64/Win10x64 using latest Firefox build 139.0a1(20250427085921).
Marking issue as unreproducible.
