Bug 1756450 (and also kinda Bug 1787309) cover showing the user an error message in the update UI when an exception is thrown in the updater. But ideally, the user should not have to look at the update UI to be made aware of this. Really, we should show either the manual update doorhanger or something similar (possibly one that also directs the user to the SUMO article proposed in Bug 1787309) when this happens.
