did an update 20021026 to 20021106. That's the results: - only one application can run (and works ok), any second one stucks, for xmple start browser -> no mail , no composer and vice versa - only way to change apps is setting the start app in preferences - deleting compreg.dat -> new one is created, no change - with browser always one error in sidebar tries to download my bookmarks, never ending - uninstall, install former version -> no success - uninstall, del mozilla-dir, install -> no success - same things with boots in between -> no success anyone some idea what to do now? what the hell is this! Hey, one thing is really surprising: download works great ;-) so it is not #171441 tried with newer buid 2002110804 -> No change deleted all entries in registry -> no change its no fun anymore, because it looks like forget mozilla or reinstall windows :-( . Thats why I call it major. I'd like to call it critical, but not all users seem to have the problem.
Have you tried creating a new profile?
Maybe this is similar to bug 144027 ? Do you have third party themes installed? Deleting them / the "chrome" folder in your profile directory might help...
puuh, this was a narrow path. I saw myself already going away from mozilla, because I need tools, that do work ;-) Thx Wesha and Andreas for the perfect help. The problem was solved by deleting the chrome directory in the profile directory. Ok, now lets go to the base. I had installed three addons, before problems started: - Orbit 3+1 - calendar - mycroft Meanwhile the problem had got worse. Sometimes I could not even start one mozilla-app. I did see the process with rising amount of memory-used. Sudden stop at need of 14MB and this it was. Is this the price of deleting compreg.dat with every setup? Then it is, indeed, a high price. Without support here, I will never be able to run Mozilla anymore. People will not accept this, nore do I.
little addition: I've read #144027. To me its the same like this one. Its ok to call this a dup. Still one question: i used newest orbit 3+1 (2002-10-31, the one where You had to do a correction in the zip-file) Is it a problem of the skin, having old profile data or of mozilla, not updating the profile?
If you think this is a dup of 144027, then feel free to resolve it that way. Thanks. If you "need tools, that do work" then please do not use Mozilla nightlies. Better use stable releases like the upcoming 1.2 or 1.0.2. Or even better use distributions meant for end-users like Netscape 7.0. Mozilla.org only "provides binaries for testing and feedback" as you can read on the home page. And they mean it. Of course you *may* use it for your everyday work (as I do), but then please do not complain if you experience problems. I do not understand what you mean by "deleting compreg.dat with every setup". You may mail to my private e-mail adress if you like help on this (of course in german). You ask whose fault it was... it's simply that Mozilla is developing and old themes cannot provide support for newly added functions. That causes problems and makes necessary that you update the third party profiles once in a while.
Hi Andreas, as not to fill just the database, this answer is the last in bugzilla, lateron we do it by eMail, if necessary ;-) - resolved it as dup - of course, I'm willing to help the product by testing nightlies, my experience with this approach is good :-) , just never had such a dead end - compreg.dat is a hint pointing towards #171441. Deleting it means loosing some informations about 'thirdparty'-components. Just are not sure, what is third-party in this context. - the used theme orbit 3+1 was of date 20023110 and marked as updated for mozilla V1.2 . So I think, files should have been ok. if You see my questions different now, feel free to answer me via eMail :-) *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 144027 ***
