RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 1756203

Details

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Set an easier-to-read font and font size in about:preferences.

  2. Mouse over the toolbar.

Actual results:

  1. The labels pop up behind the mouse arrow-cursor.

  2. The labels use the default font settings, not the selected ones. I realize that is so that if people screw up their preferences, they can read the interface to fix their preferences, but ... it's much harder to read such small text.

Expected results:

  1. The labels could appear above the toolbar icon, so that they're out of the way of the mouse arrow-cursor.

  2. The labels could use larger text, at least 2x higher.

I can't get a screenshot because that function switches the arrow to the hand tool, which doesn't get the labels.

On my particular screen the labels are about 10 mm below the icons, the label text is about 2mm tall, and due to cursor visibility settings, the cursor is 16 mm tall. I realize that with different screen size and resolution, and cursor settings, these will vary.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::Preferences' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

Hey morgan, I think we did some work on font sizes recently... do we know if things like tooltip text sizes are supposed to be influenced by changes within about:preferences, or is this something we should delegate to the OS?

historically this is something we've delegated to the OS -- our zoom and font settings are meant to influence web content only. Their behaviour on chrome pages (like about:preferences) is undefined.

I think we have a bug on file for this already, lemme dig :)
