Steps to reproduce:

  1. Install firefox 105.0
  2. Use it for a while (could be hours, could be days), moving tabs around, opening extension popups, ...

Actual results:

Firefox randomly exits with "Exiting due to channel error." and no extra output. This happens when a UI-related action is performed like moving a tab or right clicking.

One time it exited when I had ~15 tabs open and shifting them around and another time it happened when I right clicked on a link, pressed "Save Link as" and right clicked again before the save popup showed up

Neither of these are reproducible though

Happened again today (firefox 106.0.4, same egl-wayland and nvidia version) after not happening for a couple of weeks, again, not reproducible at all.

  • Launched sway
  • Launched firefox as the first program, from bemenu
  • Ctrl + Shift + P, new private window opened to the right
  • Opened phoronix.com in the normal left window and yewtu.be in the right window
  • Searched something on yewtu.be
  • Crashed (not sure whether both the pages had fully loaded or not at the time of crash)

Log with WAYLAND_DEBUG=1 and MOZ_LOG=ObserverService:5. Attached the file to the report as exit.log

Some more details I could think of:

  • I'm not on a Wayland session, just a regular Xorg session.
  • My GPU is from NVIDIA as well (GTX 660), but I'm using the 470.161.03 drivers instead.

Got another crash but this time captured the corresponding sway log output aswell

Okay, my issue is probably unrelated to this. In my case, Firefox locks up (as opposed to exiting itself) randomly, and only after I inevitably terminate its process that I get the Exiting due to channel error messages.

So I think it makes more sense to open a new ticket for my issue. Sorry for the noise here.
