User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.2b) Gecko/20021016 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.2b) Gecko/20021016 When clicking on a bookmarked irc link (eg. irc://irc.mozilla.org/#mozillazine ) , a window pops up saying 'irc is not a registered protocol'. If clicking on 'DalNet' or 'EfNet', for example, in ChatZilla, nothing happens. If typing irc://irc.mozilla.org and then pressing enter, it appears on the page as a link with "[ERROR] SyntaxError: syntax error" below it and if this link is clicked on, nothing happens. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Create a bookmark to: irc://irc.mozilla.org OR try connecting to an irc server in Chatzilla. 2. Click on the bookmark. Actual Results: When clicking on the bookmark, an 'irc is not a registered protocol' message appears. In Chatzilla, when trying to connect to an irc server, nothing happens. Expected Results: With the bookmark, it should have opened ChatZilla and connected to the irc server. In ChatZilla directly, it should have connected to the irc server. This problem was fixed when I uninstalled mozilla and then reinstalled it, however, it is occuring again - I believe this is since I installed this new build. It seems that every time I install a new build, the problem starts again.
Don't install a new version of mozilla over a previous version. Either delete the old version first, or intall in a new directory.

I'm afraid you cannot close this bug. It is not invalid, nor has it been resolved. Mozilla should not have to be uninstalled before a new version can be installed - if this is the case, then we might as well all not bother and use IE.

Er no, rather that bug is linked to this bug but this bug is much more specific. And that bug seems to have been closed anyway.

"Don't install a new version of mozilla over a previous version. Either delete the old version first, or intall in a new directory." Just did the following: 1. Uninstalled Mozilla 2. Installed Mozilla again 3. Still get the irc is not a registered protocol message....
If you have a problem with bug 140537 being closed, then complain there. This is not a chatzilla problem. Don't reopen this bug.

You actually filed 2 separate issues here. Clicking irc urls in chatzilla seems to not be working right now. The 'irc is not a registed protocol' is a different problem related to installing over an older build and is not a chatzilla bug. Try deleting compreg.dat, that usually fixes such problems.
Re-read comment 5 -- he claims he uninstalled first, still getting the error

I am using Mozilla 1.3b, no longer having this problem so I'm closing this bug
