Firefox on Windows ARM64 consistently hangs when browsing, becoming completely unresponsive and requiring the process to be killed. The process doesn't explicitly crash so I have no crash reports, but I did create a minidump of the main process.

The issue seems to occur under heavy javascript load (navigating to/from pages, interacting with big JS systems such as discord and twitter tweet loading) but that may be unrelated.

I am on Arm64 Firefox 106.0.3 on a Windows devkit for ARM.

We just released 106.0.5 recently. Could you please update and let me know if the problem persists?

I've been using 106.0.5 for about half a day now and no hangs so far. Firefox does freeze for about a second or two in situations that would've usually resulted in a hang but it recovers quickly now.

I guess this issue was related to https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1792115 ?

The severity field is not set for this bug.
:mossop, could you have a look please?

The issues of the renderer freezing for multiple seconds at a time still continues on 107.0, and it hinders the usability of Firefox. Is there anything I can do to help diagnose what's causing this?

Just wanted to add that I'm seeing the same problem. Firefox regularly freezes, all windows turn white, and after 1-3 seconds it resumes. I don't seem to be near any resource limit, plenty of RAM and CPU to spare.

I see that you've shown interest in this report. Considering the fact that the original issue appears to be partially fixed after v106.0.5, how do you think we could address this further? Would some performance profiles from our reporters help investigate this further?

Hey @Bodea, I'm from the Customer Experience Team. I think your question is better aimed to the engineering team. We can, however, help further by escalating other similar user reports that come our way to help with further investigation of this issue.

Hi :comfycallum, per :danibodea's comment, it looks like this issue might be fully or partially fixed?

I haven't seen the process need to be killed like described in the original descrikption, but I still get the aforementioned hangs where everything freezes up regularly for a couple of seconds. Just confirmed that it still happens with the nightly build 111.0a1 (2023-01-26) (64-bit).

Hello,

Same situation for me. Most of the time firefox is stable but sometimes some items on the webpage are ramdomly freezing.

OS: Windows 11 22h2
FireFox Version: 109.0.1
Processor : SQ1

I'll move this to the core product, since bug 1792115 is in there and someone there can help investigate this and move it to a more appropriate component if needed.

Product: Firefox → Core

Out of curiosity, I tried running the Linux version of Firefox ARM64 using WSL2 on Windows 11 Pro ARM. I was unable to recreate the freezing problem with the Linux version.

I have exactly the same problems using Firefox on Windows for ARM with my Thinkpad X13s which has the best available Chip for Windows at the moment (Snapdragon 8cx Gen3). I really hope for a fix :-)

Is it possible to capture a profile of the freezes?
https://firefox-source-docs.mozilla.org/performance/reporting_a_performance_problem.html

This assumes the browser is or becomes partially responsive again at some point.

Lowering to S3 due to being Firefox on ARM specific.

Severity: S2 → S3

I just want to report that I also have the exact same issue as described on the Windows Dev KIt 2023 with Snapdragon 8cx gen 3 and Windows 11. Firefox 112.0.2. It happens pretty frequently. Every 5 minutes or so, window turns all white for about 5 seconds. It's incredibly annoying. I may have to use Edge until it's resolved unfortunately.

I don't believe I've noticed it happen on my Samsung Galaxy Book Go, which has a Snapdragon 7c gen 2 and is also running Windows 11. I'll update if I see it happen on that too.

Well, that didn't take long. 10 minutes after I posted that, it did indeed happen on the Galaxy Book as well. Same Firefox version.

Sorry for all the messages, but I just notice that the hangs coincide with this event in event viewer:

Log Name: System
Source: Display

Description: Display driver QCDX stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

Same problem here.
Additionally each of my monitors ( 3 different types) frequently go to sleep (while I am working) - Only fix is restarting the Dev Kit PC remotely or unplugging the power.
Windows Dev Kit 2023 (Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3, Qualcomm Adreno 690)
FF 112.0.2
Win11: 22H2, 22621.1635

Correction: The monitors don't go to sleep while I am working: they only don't wake up from sleep.

Addition: Resizing a Windows Sandbox window to full screen 3840×2560 (MateView 28" 3:2 monitor) crashes Sandbox.

I know these additional bugs are not FF related. They may however give a hint for solving the FF problem.

Description: Display driver QCDX stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

It sounds like the Qualcomm display driver is buggy and some part of our drawing code triggers the bug, making it crash. Perhaps it's possible to flip some graphics settings and work around that. Re-triaging to gfx team.

Summary: Firefox WIndows (Arm64) consistently hangs. → Firefox for Windows ARM64 triggers crash in QCDX Display Driver, causing hangs

In May 2023 I opened a support request with Microsoft support for business about this problem, and supplied a lot of diagnostics information:
Case# 2303061420000492.
I closed this as the only suggestion they had was a clean Windows install - which I did not do because at this time the problem only occurred about every 3 days and I want to use not a clean Windows but my working environment, including FF.

I am experiencing the same issues reported by other Windows ARM users. Randomly freezing and making the whole page black (the color of my theme) for 2 to 5 seconds and no crashing.
