From late write attempts to media.gmp-manager.buildID it seems, we can end up with late attempts to update due to this timer. Probably simpleCheckAndInstall should do some appropriate shutdown check?

Async Tooling probs not the best component, but Toolkit :: General, although nominally correct for the GMP managing code, might not be best either. I can't really judge importance from comment 0, but if appropriate perhaps needinfo someone on the media team?

Hi Jed, I assume this relates somehow to Core: Audio/Video: GMP ? The late pref write is just a symptom, but trying to simpleCheckAndInstall late might be bad as such?

Downloading/updating GMP plugins sounds like it'd belong in the GMP component; I'm aware of it but don't know much about how it's implemented.
