User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/107.0.0.0 Safari/537.36 Edg/107.0.1418.42
Steps to reproduce:
I noticed that the count, on the bottom right of the screen, of messages in my Inbox was two greater than the actual number of messages shown. New messages come in and I delete messages routinely and the count is always off by two.
Actual results:
I finally looked at the inbox through a web browser connected to the IMAP server. The browser view showed two additional messages that I had deleted through Thunderbird at least a week ago. The messages disappeared in Thunderbird when I deleted them, and continue to be invisible, but they apparently were not deleted from the IMAP server.
Expected results:
When I start Thunderbird, it obviously contacts the IMAP server for new messages. However, it does not seem to verify that existing messages match. I should be able to rely on Thunderbird to accurately reflect the IMAP contents.
I looked in the Inbox file in the Thunderbird profile. The two deleted messages were there. Thus, I deleted the messages previously, they do not show in Thunderbird, and yet they are in the profile file and on the IMAP server.

Try "Repair folder" from the folder properties.
That fixed it! The message previously deleted from Thunderbird re-appeared and the inbox now matches the IMAP server. Many thanks.
