We don't apply the regular syntax highlighting hidden elements. This also applies to elements which will never be displayed. regardless of their styling, eg <style> tags.

For those elements, the lack of syntax highlighting doesn't really bring any additional information, and makes reading them in the markup view more complicated than needed.

Alternatively we could also have a preference to highlight all elements regardless of their visibility.
