Details
Steps to reproduce:
Go to about:preferences#general
and set Website appearance
to Dark
.
Actual results:
ComingSoon pages load in light mode. Example URL: https://www.comingsoon.net/games/reviews/1247696-garbage-pail-kids-mad-mike-and-the-quest-for-stale-gum-review-ps4-worth-buying
You have to manually click on the icon at the top right corner of the page to enable the dark theme, which sets a simple cookie. Users who have configured Firefox to delete cookies automatically have to keep doing this again every time they open the site.
Expected results:
Please reach out to ComingSoon to ask them to respect prefers-color-scheme
.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::Theme' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

We appreciate your report. I was able to reproduce the issue. Bugs related to Firefox Theme can be submitted here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=Firefox&component=Theme Moving the issue accordingly.
Tested with:
Browser / Version: Firefox Release 109.0 (64-bit)/ Firefox Nightly 111.0a1 (2023-01-19) (64-bit)
Operating System: Windows 10 PRO x64
Notes:
- Reproducible regardless of the status of ETP.
- Reproducible on the latest build of Firefox Nightly and Release.
Raul, this isn't a Firefox bug, let alone a Firefox theme bug. This is an issue with the site, which doesn't respect prefers-color-scheme
.
As you can see on 1794320#c3, the component I had selected is the correct one: Web Compatibility.
It seems that their design has been changed since when I first created this report. I don't see a button to toggle the dark mode anymore, so apparently they were just testing it for a limited time.

From the report, I understood that the Dark theme fails when activated from the browser. Was the dark theme activated from the browser, or there was a button on the page to do that?
The Website appearance
setting doesn't force any site to be dark. It just uses prefers-color-scheme
to politely request sites to use their own dark themes, in case they have one.
