Similar thing is happening to me since I installed 1.2 beta over my 1.1R, but with Microsoft Word documents. PDF files open okay for me. Prolly some screwy configuration problem I guess. Here's where I've looked: My computer's configured handling of .doc files looks like the out-of-the-box use-winword-via-DDE settings, which I don't recall having edited. I don't have any helper applications set. Mozilla 1.2 beta, Build ID 2002101612 on Windows 2000.

Oops, found the main thread for this bug, 171441, and I guess this should be marked as a dup of that one. Deleting compreg.dat while mozilla isn't running is a workaround that works for me.
