Steps to reproduce the problem:

  1. Open the link/file.
  2. ???
  3. Profit.

What is the expected behavior? (add screenshot)
Aborting and/or showing the user "page not found", like Edge and manually downloading the page clearly returns.
(I guess that if the file is eventually null, pdf.js shouldn't even be started at all)

What went wrong? (add screenshot)
The blue loading bar on top gets full, and gives you the impression that the document is just about to be finally opened if you'll wait just another few seconds.

Hello! I have manage to reproduce the issue with firefox 110.0a1(2022-12-13), 108.0 and 107.0.1 on Ubuntu 22.04, Win 10 and MacOS 12.4 following the STR provided in the description. I will mark this issue as NEW in order to get our developers involved.

Thank you!
