Thunderbird IMAP delete mail to local Trash folder

Steps to reproduce:
For pretty much every action (sending mail, archiving, ...) I can have my IMAP account put mail into a local folder.
But for deleting mail, I can only select it to have the mail deleted to an IMAP folder. I would like to be able to delete mail to the local Trash folder.
Every time I have to now manually drag the trash from my IMAP folder to the local Trash folder.
I used to use POP to solve this but on POP I have the issue that legitimate mail would end up in the spam folder, and POP does not download anything from the spam folder. IMAP is also easier as I use multiple devices that are online and have Mozilla Thunderbird open at the same time. I do not want to use my mail server to keep my old mails around in the trash bin for potential future reference, but on my local machines instead.

Ideally imap trash folder would be implemented like the other folder selections... but it isn't.

Would it be possible to receive an update on this?
All the Sent mail from my IMAP accounts is currently being stored in Local Folders / Sent automatically thanks to Mozilla Thunderbird built-in settings that you can configure:

I really desire for the same behaviour with deleted mails, just have all my IMAP accounts deleted mail to end up in Local Folders / Deleted. The settings do not allow this configuration, only online folders are selectable:

Would it not be as simple as adding the Local Folders entry?

It's not that simple since the code is not prepared for such a scenario. See comment 2.

What is stopping the Mozilla Thunderbird team to finally try to get their hands on this thing?
I believe it has been requested almost more than a decade ago as well.

We would certainly accept a patch. But it's a minor problem and there's plenty of other priorities.
