My news directory has a stupid .dat file along the .msf file. the .dat file only contains the following info: version="8" logging="no" There's one [newsgroupname.dat] file for each newsgroup. fx netscape.public.dev.xul.dat could we wait and create the .dat file ONLY if needed!
fixed? I don't see .dat for all my newsgroups
Tb 22.214.171.124 has these msgFilterRules.dat in all news server group folders with the cited two fields by default. These are a waste of HDD space being 27 bytes claiming a 4 KB cluster.

The msgFilterRules.dat files are showing in all 6 of my news accounts. Only two accounts have filters set. That implies that the files are created by default. I see no reason for that action until a filter is actually created. The files exist in both profiles. All were created on 08/09/2007, the date I created the second profile and worked to restore the primary profile. Even the accounts with filters do not have any data in the files other than version="8" logging="no" OS is Windows ME. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=375292 is a Linux bug if I read it right.
