What is the user problem or growth opportunity you want to see solved?
I want configuration of extensions subsequent to installation to become unnecessary.
How do you know that this problem exists today? Why is this important?
This is important because configuration unnecessarily requires much time and potentially introduces inconsistency of configuration.
Who will benefit from it?
All that utilise extensions.

This was originally my bug. Might I regain my reporter status, merely so that I am less confused by my involvement in this when receiving notifications via e-mail?

It looks like this is actually a duplicate of Bug 1625257, which is tracking introducing full support to syncing storage.sync data on GeckoView builds, and that paired with the extension to be using the storage.sync API for data that is meant to be synced would be covering this use case.
We wouldn't implicitly sync extension data that the extension assumes is only stored local, and so this can only be supported if the extensions also uses storage.sync WebExtensions API on their side (but for that to work in practice Bug 1625257 has to be also fixed first).
