User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/109.0
Steps to reproduce:
Precondition:
Firefox settings "Open previous windows and tabs" checked.
Steps:
- Launch Firefox.
- Open many tabs with various urls. (Maybe 100+ tabs are easyly to reproduce.)
- Close firefox with session saved.
- Launch Firefox again.
- Check the saved tabs from the Title bar of Firefox.
Actual results:
Randamly found some tabs are shown as "New tab" instead the original tab.
This causes the saved tab was lost since the last time.
Comments:
- I have created a clean new firefox profile to reproduce this bug and succeeded.
- Sometimes I found the missing tab was also not found in Firefox History, which indicates the url was not treated as a visited page though opened. This information maybe helpful.
- I am a heavy user of firefox especially on saving an amount of (1000+) opend tabs and different profiles. This bug really makes a lot of trouble on recovering tabs from the last session and I have lost some of them. Firefox was not like this about half year ago. So I am eagerly wishing it fixed. Thank you!
Expected results:
All tabs from the saved last session should be recoved well and no missing.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::Session Restore' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

Hello! I have tried to reproduce the issue using firefox 111.0a1(2023-02-06) on Ubuntu 22.04, unfortunately I wasn't able to reproduce the issue.
Julien could you please take a closer look on this issue?

Hey Sergiu, I'm not sure I'm person you wanted to ping here. Maybe another Julien?
But on another note, I think I've seen this issue, I believe this can happen if the first navigation network request hasn't responded yet. So for example if you reload the browser, go on several tabs quickly so that they're reloaded (using the keyboard), and then close the browser before they had the chance to respond, I believe this might lose whatever was inside.

Redirect a needinfo that is pending on an inactive user to the triage owner.
:dao, since the bug has recent activity, could you have a look please?
For more information, please visit auto_nag documentation.
Adjust the sequences of tabs then close firefox, also could help reproducing this bug.

Hi, does comment 3 seem like a plausible explanation for this? Its not clear what it actionable for us on this end.
Hi Guys, since it has been a long time, I'd like to add some more details.
- For the recent several versions, the occurance of this issue has greatly reduced, though still not 100 percently fixed.
Though maybe you did not fix it on purpose, the condition has been surely improved a lot. - For reproduce, I am not sure what kind of tabs would be useful, but if I occasionally got one such tab, the situation can be reproduced again and again on the same tab with a certain url.
For example:- I found one such tab, it becomes a blank "New Tab" after I close and reopen Firefox.
- I open a new tab and open the url again, and close Firefox.
- Reopen Firefox, and found the tab still turns into a blank "New Tab"
So it seems some urls are doggedly to be like this. But I guess it is about the cache of the page not the url itself.
- I guess the problem is happening during the saving session period rather than session restore period, which means the tab information is not saved correctly when closing Firefox.
Hope the imformation is useful for you.
This problem has been not a big problem for me since the probability of occurrence is reduced.
