User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_15_7) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/109.0.0.0 Safari/537.36
Steps to reproduce:
Visited numerous websites. For example, compare these between Firefox and Chrome:
https://www.rcsb.org/structure/5MQF
https://www.jneurosci.org/
I am using FF 109.0.1 on MacOS Ventura 13.2 (22D49), Intel MacBook Pro 2019 2.6 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7, AMD Radeon Pro 5300M 4 GB Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB
Please see the image to see what I mean by "garbled".
Note that removing all extensions, uninstalling, removing all files from ~/Library/Application\ Support/Firefox, then reinstalling, does not resolve the issue.
Actual results:
Some of the text on the page, but not all of the text, is jumbled with nonsense characters.
Expected results:
The text shouldn't be garbled.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Core::Layout: Text and Fonts' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

This looks like an example of bug 1803406. You will probably find that it can be resolved by finding and removing duplicate fonts installed in the local ~/Library/Fonts folder, that are conflicting with standard system fonts.
I can confirm that it was the fonts in ~/Library/Fonts. Removing them an relaunching Firefox fixed the issue. I will close this as resolved/duplicate.
