This alternate text should not be there if the user is not viewing an HTML page. The error message should be different when the alternate text is blank (on an HTML page), e.g. ALT="" on the bugzilla homepage. Text given is "The image “http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ant.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors." Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Visit http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ant.jpg 2. Right-click> Properties 3. Read Alternate Text line.

Actually, that _is_ the alternate text on that image in the HTML document we synthesize to show standalone images. That way if the image can't be displayed you get that text.... imo, Image Properties should simply be disabled for standalone images in any case. Page Info is much more appropriate in that situation....
Summary: Alternate text for an image is shown even when viewing just an image → Alternate text for an image is shown in image properties even when viewing just an image

On 1.2-Release, the text is: The image “http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ant.jpg” Which makes more sense than an error message. However, I agree with comment #1 - it probably shouldn't be shown at all (and with comment #2 - it is a dup).
