Attached file sample3.txt

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/111.0

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Download a file of a specific type (e.g. a .txt file from https://filesamples.com/formats/txt)
  2. Click on the downloads icon in Firefox and open the file/click on the downloaded file

Actual results:

.txt file is getting opened in the Wine text editor.
.html file is opened in Google Chromium.

Expected results:

.txt file should have been opened in KDE Kate.
.html file should have been opened in KDE Kate.

The files are opened in the correct app (KDE Kate) when double clicking them in my file explorer (KDE Dolphin) and when running something like xdg-open example.txt

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::File Handling' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

Component: Untriaged → File Handling

Maybe some additional info I wasn't asked about in the report creation process:

  • I am Manjaro Linux and installed Firefox from the package repository
  • In KDE Plasma I do have Wine notepad or Chromium configured to handle text/plain
  • In the Firefox settings I do have text files set to 'Save File' in the 'Applications' section

Additional version information:

KDE Plasma Version: 5.26.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.103.0
Kernel Version: 5.15.102-1-MANJARO (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
