• Mac OS 12.4;
• Ubuntu 20.04 x64;

[Prerequisites]:

• Have the "layout.css.font-visibility.private" pref set to 1.

[Steps to reproduce]:

1. Open the browser from the prerequisites.
2. Open a Private Window.
3. [macOS] Navigate to the List_of_Wikipedias page and search after the following languages: Balinese, Santali, Maldivian, Meitei, Shilha, Gothic, Buginese, Aramaic (Syriac), N'Ko.
4. [Ubuntu] Navigate to the List_of_Wikipedias page and search after the following languages: Balinese, Santali, Meitei, Nuosu
5. Observe the second column "Wikipedia name in native language".

[Expected result]:

• The name in the native language is correctly displayed.

[Actual result]:

• The name in the native language is displayed with tofu boxes.

[Notes]:

• On Windows 10 x64, all the languages from this list are correctly displayed.
• For testing this bug we have used the following Wikipedia page: List_of_Wikipedias. On this page are the language editions of Wikipedia, each language has an example and we can check by going through the list and verifying if any language breaks. I have also added in the Steps, links with the native languages where I could found.

We've checked again this issue after the landing of bugs https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1835271 and https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1836590 in Nightly 106.0a1, across platforms, macOS 11, Win 11 x64 and Ubuntu 22.04 x64 (VM).

It seems that only Ubuntu 22.04 has a couple of fonts mentioned in comment 0, that are still displayed with tofu boxes. Characters for "Santali" and "Nuosu" fonts are displayed with tofu boxes in PBM, but not in normal window.

Mybe it's because I've installed Skeirs, but Gothic works for me with font visibility 1 in private windows on MacOS.

I think we can also chalk this up to localy installed langpack fonts.
