(Sorry if this is misfiled, but there doesnt seem to be a Component for Lightning?)

This is a very old bug, but I can't find it in BugZilla, maybe it was never filed.

Lightning doesn't properly integrate with the Mac calendar, there has been a geek-only workaround for which there are two competing sets of instructions posted as long ago as 2011, but for non-geeks this effectively means TB - unlike Mac's Address book - doesn't syc with their Calendar, and therefore with their phone.

The hack works - its read/write (unlike the OSX Address book integration) but its horendously hard to follow, involving pulling values out of a plist to assemble a CalDev URL which iCloud doesn't otherwise expose.

It also only works offline,

The hacks are:
https://frightanic.com/apple-mac/thunderbird-icloud-calendar-sync/ or https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3414939?answerId=17479458022#17479458022

I raised it on TopicBox at:
https://thunderbird.topicbox.com/groups/beta/T405544de203453c1/mac-osx-integration

I think the preference of most Mac users would be to have Lightning and work directly with the Mac Calendar, or even better to ditch Lightning and just work with the same calendar all their other apps use. But since that sounds unlikely, at a very least Lightning should have a way to work through the integration process to get the icloud URL.

Hey Mitra, it's no longer Lightning, just fully integrated Thunderbird Calendar, but the bugs still live in Calendar product atm. As you said, this must be on record already.

That looks like a different problem, and I can't figure out if that is connecting to an existing CalDev calendar on iCloud or trying to create a new one through the TB interface rather than from the MacOS addressbook but anyway the challenge is connecting to the Mac Calendar - Thomas added the "via Caldav".

IMHO Ideally TB should connect directly via Apple's APIs, not rely on being online to iCloud to sync with a calendar which is on the same machine.

In the absence of being able to connect directly (like other apps do), TB could connect via Caldav, but that requires auto-discovering the caldav address - the process that is extremely painful and error prone (and essentially limited to uber-geeks) when done manually as in the hack posted in those two sets of instructions.

That might be why I can't find the bug - if the bug is so old that it happened when Lightning was a separate thing, then it might have been posted in some Lightning forum or other and not exist in Bugzilla at all
