With the current release, filters can only be enabled or not enabled. Adding an
additional checkbox "manual" would greatly sim-plify the task of filtering after
the fact. If this is done, "enabled" should be changed to "automatic"

Right now to filter after the fact you have to: open message filters, select the
filters you want to run, select a folder in the filter window, click on
"manually run selected filters on folder".
After my proposed change you would only have to watch a folder and "run filters
on selected folders".

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:

Ever confirmed: true
mass re-assign.

I use this in opera and it is *the* reason for me to still use it...
I love to sort the messages away automatically *after* reading them in my inbox.

My Use case:
- Get Messages
- Read Messages in Inbox
- Select Messages to sort away
- Click ctrl-m to "Run manual-filters on selected messages"
Would be quite useful.
My understanding of this bug - after a small discussion with Andrea - is as follows:

In the mail filter dialog, for each filter, allow these states:
 - Inactive: don't run this filter
(except by the respective button of the filter dialog)
 - Active/Automatic: run this filter automatically on incoming mail
 - Manual: run this filter only when selecting "run filter now"
   (filter after the fact)

It may be useful to separate the two active states to allow for filters running
both automatically and manually.

It may be useful to limit the "filter after the fact" to selected messages only
(or all of this folder if none selected).

Yes, all of your Comments make Sense to me!
Of course a Keyboard Shortcut for "Filter manually" would be a Good-Idea(TM).

Was this fixed by bug 440635?
yes, marking this a dup of that bug, since that's where the work happened.
