We disabled WebGPU for Mac in bug 1807403, so let's connect the dependency graph between that and re-enabling it.

Hello, i am confused why this issue is taking so long to resolve, i am not even able to play 4K on firefox but brave and safari can play 4k fine

seems like, there is no way to get HW accel working for VP9 on my system currently, also seems like issue with all macos systems as it seems that webGPU is simply disabled for all systems running macos

connor.mccaffrey: Hey there! This issue has taken the time it has due to a few factors:

1. WebGPU on MacOS is currently a lower priority than shipping on Windows, which still has outstanding work. Most of the WebGPU team is focused on this.
2. :bradwerth has been solo-dedicated to this task otherwise, and making consistent progress on the underlying issues blocking MacOS from being tested openly in Nightly.

You can still force the usage of WebGPU in Nightly on MacOS by setting the gfx.webgpu.ignore-blocklist preference to true in an about:config tab. Note, however, that we expect there to be significant enough issues that we have this disabled by default in the first place.

As for VP9 encoding, that's not directly relevant to WebGPU, so our team can't help you there. I'd encourage searching through Bugzilla for an existing issue (I see several, but it's likely you'll have better judgment on which is a fit). If you determine that no existing bugs seem to fit the problem you're having, then feel free to file a new issue against the Audio/Video: Playback component of `Core.

Blockers resolved, this is done. Bug 1864698 took macOS off the blocklist. WebGPU is on-by-default for macOS Nightly.
