Currently after download when user taps on the download notification the notification does not get automatically dismissed. Similarly the download snackbar does not get dismissed unless the user tap on the "Open" button or close it through the "x" button.

Investigate if we can auto dismiss the notification or snackbar while maintaining a good user experience.

Firefox for Android 133.0.3 (according to Google Play, there is not update available today).
Samsung Galaxy S9+
Android 9 (I am not allowed to update - work device)

After downloading one or several files using Firefox, after all downloads HAVE FINISHED successfully, each download remains visible in the notification area of the phone UI. If there are several, they get grouped.
If there is only one download, it cannot be dismissed.
If there are multiple downloads, all but one can be dismissed.

In effect, my notification area retains almost permanently this notification from Firefox.
I have nothing against a download in progress notification being non-dismissable.
But these have finished. Please allow me to send them away. They are of no further use and clutter needlessly my notification area.

Pressing ||| (show running apps) and swipe up on the Firefox window - does not clear notification.

Workarounds:

  • long tap on Firefox icon, App info, Force stop
  • phone reboot
