Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:114.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/114.0

Steps to reproduce:

Firefox built with elf-hack segfaults when visiting certain sites, like whatsapp web.
I first filed a bug with gentoo, and I was told to file a bug upstream.
https://bugs.gentoo.org/908979

Actual results:

Firefox segfaults and crashes the tab when visiting whatsapp web.

Expected results:

Firefox does not segfault.

Moving this to Firefox Build System > General component to allow our engineers to examine it more closely. If this is not the right component, please move it to a more appropriate one. Thanks!

Glandium, any idea what in elf-hack might cause a problem to Firefox?

Flags: needinfo?(mh+mozilla)

If something went wrong with elf-hack, there would be startup crash. A crash "when visiting certain sites" can't be caused by elf-hack.

Flags: needinfo?(mh+mozilla)

This was fixed in firefox 115. It turns out that the segfaults were not caused by elf-hack. Disabling elf-hack only made them occur less frequently. If still interested, see the gentoo bug, as this was discussed in more detail there.

Glandium and I discussed this in our meeting today. We decided that if it's resolved for Firefox 115, then we're not concerned with investigating it to resolve it for Firefox 114. As such, we'll close this as WORKSFORME.
