Steps to reproduce:

DownloadHelper addon not work correct on Firefox 115.0.2

DownloadHelper addon not work correct on Firefox 115.0.2, not work with external app.
Reason of this bug is probably new version of Firefox. Previous versions in the past it works correct.

I have Firefox on Ubuntu installed from Ubuntu Software snap store.

My version of Ubuntu is actual Ubuntu 23.04.

My version of Firefox is 115.0.2

Hello,

I could not reproduce the issue on the latest Nightly (117.0a1/20230716213402) or Release (115.0.2/20230710165010) under Windows 10 x64.

I installed the extension and the companion app. In the extension settings page, the companion app is recognized as being installed.

I downloaded several videos, and the videos were properly downloaded i.e. the extensions works.

Thank you very much Alex for answer.
I use Firefox on Ubuntu OS

The STR in comment 0 doesn't specify it, but if the issue is related to VideoDownloadHelper integration with its companion app in a Firefox build as a snap on Ubuntu, then this is likely a duplicate of Bug 1661935.

would you mind to confirm us if the issue reported is the same as the one briefly described in comment 4?

I am not sure whether it is the same bug.
Before one month I used Download Helper in Ubuntu snap version and it works correct.
Before and after reinstall of Ubuntu I use actual version of Ubuntu
After reinstall of Ubuntu, it not work correct.
I have installed external app of Download Helper, but it display as not installed external app.

My version of Ubuntu is actual Ubuntu 23.04.
My version of Firefox is 115.0.2

ekonom1, could you share the exact steps to reproduce this?

Alex, could you check whether this issue is reproducible with the Firefox from the Ubuntu package manager (a Snap version of Firefox)?

Hello Rob
External download helper app is installed, but it not work correct
https://youtu.be/j4LvPFyBPv0

I reproduced the issue on the latest Snap version of Firefox Release (115.0.2/20230710165010) under Ubuntu 22.04 LTS.

With both the add-on and companion app installed, the add-on fails to see the companion app as installed and will fail when attempting to download videos.
Several errors are logged to console when attempting to check for the installation of the companion app via the add-on settings page. See attached screenshots.

I also tested the non-Snap version of Firefox Release and on this version, the add-on properly sees the companion app as being installed and video downloading is possible.

Amin, could you take a look at this bug? I'm asking you since you have taken ownership of the patch at bug 1661935.

Side note, what is the status of https://phabricator.services.mozilla.com/D140803 ? We should work towards getting that patch landed to make maintenance for you (Ubuntu) easier, as well as ensuring that any changes to the patches are reviewed by experts with domain knowledge (e.g. me).
