This doesn't look like it's going to be done anytime soon. Unassigning, to indicate that I'm not actively working on this. The attached patch, however, should be valid so long as upstream doesn't change (which we don't consider likely for the foreseeable future).

Probably not a problem for users that this isn't a FrozenArray yet, and easy to workaround for authors.
