The startup behaviour of the mozregression GUI on macOS is confusing and time consuming since version 5.7.0.

After double clicking the application the mozregression icon appears for a very short time in the dock, then it disappears. It always takes more than 10 seconds, sometimes even more than 20 seconds (!) until it suddenly reappears and mozregression opens - on a Apple M1 Pro device, that's a very fast machine.

It's a regression of version 5.7.0, mozregression 5.6.0 did not have any startup issues, it opened immediately, less than one second.

Bug 1845573 is marked as fixed, but didn't fix the confusing startup behaviour. On the contrary, it is even worse with the latest update, mozregression 5.9.0.

  • After double-clicking the application icon, the mozregression icon appears for a very short time in the dock, then it disappears.
  • Nothing happens for multiple seconds.
  • Then the dock icon reappears and a startup message appears.
  • Nothing happens for several seconds.
  • Then a second dock icon appears.
  • Then the first dock icon disappears.
