Environment:
Operating system: Windows 10
Firefox version: Nightly 118.0a1 (2023-08-05)

Preconditions: must be logged in

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Go to https://pinterest.com
  2. Tap on the drop down icon located in the header.
  3. Observe the text in the drop down menu.

Expected Behaviour:
Thinner font displayed on the page.

Actual Behaviour:
The font displayed is bolder.

Notes:

  1. Screenshot provided
  2. Reproducible on Firefox Release as well
  3. Not reproducible on Chrome
  4. The bolder text can be observed on multiple pages but it was more noticeable in the drop down menu
  5. Issue found during WebCompat team [Top100] websites testing

The difference in the screenshot seem pretty subtle to me; I think the main difference is that in the drop-down menu, Chrome is using subpixel antialiasing, whereas in Firefox it's grayscale-only. Not sure whether that's really a bug, or just a difference in how the rendering pipelines end up handling things. Interestingly, in the page behind the drop-down, the situation is the opposite: Firefox has subpixel AA, while Chrome has grayscale!

Verified this issue and it's still reproducible on Firefox versions 122 and 124.
