Prerequisites
Have a third party app installed that can handle youtube links (youtube app, etc)
Steps to reproduce
- Open Firefox and go to Settings-Open links in apps.
- Select "Ask before opening".
- Exit Settings, and perform a search (e.g. "funny cat video") related to an app already installed on your device.
- On the displayed popup, tap the "Cancel" button.
- Repeat the search. Observe the behavior.
Expected behavior
The "Ask before opening" popup appears after tapping the Close button whenever a new search is initiated and a third-party app is present on the mobile device.
Actual behavior
The "Ask before opening" popup doesn't reappear after tapping the "Cancel" button.

- Firefox version: 118.0a1 from 11.08.2023
- Android device model: Samsung GalaxyZ Fold 4 , Motorola Moto G9 plus
- Android OS version: Android 13, Android 11

- This issue is also reproducible on 117.0b6.
- This issue is not reproducible on RC 116.2.0.
