Preconditions:
Clean profile
Account login performed
"Open links in-app" option enabled or set to "Ask before opening"

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Navigate to : https://www.amazon.com/Worlds-Toughest-Race-Eco-Challenge-Fiji/dp/B08F6W65KD
  2. Tap on the "Download episode" option.
  3. Observe the result.

Expected Behavior:
Google Play Store app is triggered.

Actual Behavior:
Nothing happens.

Notes:

  • Reproducible regardless of the status of ETP
  • Reproducible on the latest build of Firefox Nightly and Release.
  • Works as expected using Chrome
  • Screenshot attached
  • Issue found during WebCompat team [Top100] websites testing.

Verified this issue and still reproduces on Firefox 122, 123 and 124.

I got EXPECTED RESULTS when testing this just now. With the "Always" option, when I tap "Download episode 1", Firefox immediately takes me to Prime Video in the Play Store. With "Ask me", Firefox pops up a prompt.

Maybe this has been fixed? I do see that this was filed 10 months ago, and I know we've made some improvements to our open-in-external-app flow over that time.

Raul, would you mind retesting and seeing if you can still repro?
