There was a regression on Whatsapp side two weeks ago, and then a fix was deployed. See bug 1849150 comment 13 for some details.

Dear reporter,
Could you please try again with the latest whatwapp web ? Thank you.

Or 118.0b2 (64-bit)

Jan, you've looked at copying. Do you have an idea what could be happening?

Flags: needinfo?(jjaschke)

I've only looked into clipboard stuff very briefly. Edgar is the expert in that territory. I'm happy to follow along and learn though. :)

I cannot reproduce this in Whatsapp version 2.2337.7 on either Firefox 117.0 and Firefox Nightly (2023-09-11).
Could you please try again with the latest whatwapp version? Thanks!

This hasn't been fixed yet? I still have this issue. Can't copy/paste data into Whatsapp outside of its dedicated send feature/buttons.

Have tried toying with dom.event.clipboardevents.enabled but that hasn't helped, it's set to false for me right now.

What is the value of the clipboard.imageAsFile.enabled preference on your side? Does set clipboard.imageAsFile.enabled to false help? Thanks!

Flags: needinfo?(cosmitzian)

It did nothing but it actually was dom.eventclipboardevents.enabled set to false. I thought i cycled through its settings before commenting, something i had changed back when you couldn't paste text into whatsapp anymore a while back, but i was wrong, maybe i didn't restart the browser and just refreshed the page inbetween tests?

Anyway, turning it back to true brought back image pasting. So to finalise, right now with dom.event.clipboardevents.enabled on the default value, TRUE, and clipboard.imageAsFile.enabled set to the default TRUE, everything seems fine.

Sorry to have bumped this, should have just fully restarted my browser inbetween changes.

With Firefox 136 I cannot paste images in Telegram neither Whatsapp Web.
It doesn´t work either in private mode.

In my case it was too having disabled the clipboard.imageAsFile.enabled setting.

Hi David,

Thank you for reporting this.

Could you please provide the following details to help us investigate the issue further:

  1. Which versions of Telegram and WhatsApp are you currently using?
  2. What operating system (including version) are you using?
  3. Have you tried setting clipboard.imageAsFile.enabled to true? If so, did it resolve the issue?

I'm not able to reproduce on macOS with nightly (Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.15; rv:139.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/139.0). Pasting an image in a conversation works in https://web.whatsapp.com .

I don't see clipboard.imageAsFile.enabled or dom.eventclipboardevents.enabled in about:config, were they removed?

:hsinyi can you try reproducing on Windows, or redirect the NI?

I couldn't reproduce it with Nightly 139, Windows. The preference clipboard.imageAsFile.enabled is false (the default one) in my case.

It also worked as expected with Release Fx 137.

David, can you try disabling extensions and see if it still reproduces? And try troubleshoot mode? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/diagnose-firefox-issues-using-troubleshoot-mode#w_how-to-start-firefox-in-troubleshoot-mode

clipboard.imageAsFile.enabled is #ifdef XP_WIN, and the other is a typo for dom.event.clipboardevents.enabled

This seems to work for everyone who tried recently. We can reopen it if some still sees it.
