User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/117.0
Steps to reproduce:
Downloaded and installed the latest Supernova application.
Tried all the user settings I could to get all the menu items I had in the previous version.
Actual results:
The new calendar is too big and cannot place more than one line of text in the comments box at the bottom.
The menus at the top of the screen are not adjustable.
See the next box and attached image file for detailed items.
Expected results:
- The top menu bars are hard set and cannot be adjusted in vertical size or position.
- The data entry fields have too much space around the data entries. (White-out is used to hide data information from a live calendar entry).
- Way too much white space around data entries.
- The text enhancements for the description box are an excellent addition. Good work. One problem here. It is often difficult to get the enhancements to function.
- I can only place one line of text in the description field. The box will not resize downwards to add an additional line of text. I use this calendar page for detailed information on photographic assignments in the field.
Do you get the same problem if you test Thunderbird in Troubleshoot mode?
Help > TRoubleshoot Mode
click on 'Restart - select 'Continue in TRoubleshoot mode'
If yes, try this:
- Help > More Troubleshooting Information
- Under 'Application Basics' - half way - Profile folders - click on 'open Folder'
A new window opens containing contents of profile folder - Exit Thunderbird now
- Scroll to bottom, locate and delete these files:
--session.json
--xulstore.json
Restart Thunderbird
Please report on findings
Please review the attached image of the Calendar screen capture after deleting files session.json and xulstore.json, then re-starting Thunderbird and opening Calendar.
Following the directions of your reply changed the Calendar significantly. I spent a lot of time trying to get the Calendar user interface to perform in a manner I could work with. Please view the new screen capture attached to this reply.
- I do not use the Search function, and it wastes a lot of screen space; now, it is blank except for the hamburger menu icon.
- In the date field, there is too much space around each date entry.
- Only a single date entry can be viewed in a date field; true, we can scroll down to see more, but we used to see at least three to four scheduled events.
The Edit an Event screen has not changed there is too much space around each data field and the Description box only allows one line of text.
Additional information that may not have been included in the original post.
This is a Dell desktop computer with two 20-inch dual monitors.
The third image file is a screen capture of the Event Date screen. Everything has too much white space around it and the Description box has only one line of text available.
I opened my 'xulxtore.json' file using Notepad.
This section deals with Calendar and that Edit Event window.
"chrome://calendar/content/calendar-summary-dialog.xhtml":{"calendar-summary-dialog":{"screenX":"344","screenY":"187"}},"chrome://calendar/content/calendar-event-dialog.xhtml":{"calendar-event-window":{"width":"590","height":"651","screenX":"162","screenY":"31"},"event-toolbox":{"mode":"full"},"cmd_timezone":{"checked":"true"}},"chrome://messenger/content/viewLog.xhtml":{"viewLogWindow":{"width":"616","height":"414","screenX":"7","screenY":"62"}},
In particular this line:
:{"calendar-event-window":{"width":"590","height":"651","screenX":"162","screenY":"31"}
- Exit Thunderbird.
- Access profile and locate xulstore.json
- Put a copy of xulstore.json on desktop to act as a temp backup.
- open xulstore.json using a simple text editor like Notepad
- edit calendar-event-window width setting to say 590
- edit calendar-event-window height setting to say 651
Then save the file.
Start Thunderbird and check the Edit Event window.
Post image showing result.

Please review the latest image screen capture while reading these follow-up comments.
- The edited file seems to have changed only the physical size of the event edit screen.
- It has done nothing to the enormous waste of space around the data entry fields. NOTE: Calendar, Category and all remaining data fields have a large amount of white space around each entry. Only Title and Location have the right amount of white space. I have no space to insert a description of the event.
- Three is the background of the mail window showing the calendar edit event screen for reference.
I am sorry to report this has done nothing to resolve the problems encountered by installing the latest Thunderbird update.
Can I revert back to the previous setting with all my addresses and messages?
Guys, thank you for trying to help; now it is becoming too confusing to entertain the thought of getting TB Calendar back to a usable tool. Maybe it is time to throw in the towel and return to Outlook, which I haven't used in 30 years. They had a calendar that worked.
I am not mad at anyone, just very disappointed.

The latest image looks like you are using 'View' > 'Density' > 'Default' or maybe 'Relaxed'.
I'm comparing the amount of space not just in the Edit Event window but also in the Message List.
Do this:
Either via 'Menu Bar' toolbar
- View > Density > select 'Compact'
Or via menu app icon
- Density > select first icon (the left one of three)
This will immediately alter the space around things.
Report on results.
After modifying your Density settings....
What size screen are you using ? It looks quite small.
What are the computer screen resolution settings you are using ?
This info is really important so that the designers understand what is being seen on that size of screen.
It's not exactly clear from image where the end of the window is in relation to the screen as it looks like you have cropped the image. eg: I cannot see any Task Bar, so do not know how much of the 'Edit Window' is visible at the bottom.
You reported this as a bug and therefore your assistance is important. I'm trying to narrow down exactly what is causing the problem.
Your issue is partly due to your settings which can be easily modified and maybe partly due to screen resolution. But the forum needs that information. Many thanks.
Numbers 1 - 3 show the sequence of moves for the View options. I tried all three options and the other selections did enlarge the spacing around the data entries and the 'compact' is the least amount of spacing, but consumes too much space.

This is the full-screen capture of the calendar screen; the Edit Event is not much better; I still cannot enter any description.

REally need this info:
What size screen are you using ? It looks quite small.
What are the computer screen resolution settings you are using ?
I'm using 1920 x 1080
Also what is set in this location:
- Settings > General
- scroll to bottom
- click on 'Config Editor'
- In search type : pixels
- look for : layout.css.devPixelsPerPx
Is it set a NEGATIVE number -1.0 ?

That image explains a few things.
At some point the 'layout.css.devPixelsPerPx' preference has been altered.
It has been modified because it is bold and there is a 'reset to default' arrow icon at the end.
It should be a NEGATIVE -1.5 and you have a POSITIVE 1.5
Click on the arrow at the end and it should revert to NEGATIVE -1.5
Then report on what you can see after resetting this value back to default NEGATIVE -1.5.

The attached image file with today's date shows some changes but incorrect spacing in the calendar event days. Still cannot see any data. NOTE: When applying the arrow to set the default value to - 1.5, it entered -1.0, I had to manually enter .5.

Ange,
The attached image file, 09132023B, shows what has happened after stumbling around in my Windows 10 settings app. I set the monitor's resolution to 100% (recommended), and I now have space in the event date boxes to allow two events to appear. Much better than before.
The image also shows a big difference in the top of the events layout. This is a smaller screen capture of only a part of the open window.
- A very large space vertically with nothing of value in the space. I would like to collapse this space to allow more room for date boxes. I would also like to see less space around the date entries (green).
I have also noticed when editing a date field, the description box is approximately 70& of the screen vertically. I can click and hold on a corner or the bottom edge of the box and drag it down to expose the description box and enter text. In older versions of Calendar and Firefox, when we manually resized a window, the application would remember the physical settings and open a new window with the new settings.

It would be helpful to know the screen resolution setting - what does that 100 % represent eg: 1920 x 1080
NOTE: When applying the arrow to set the default value to - 1.5, it entered -1.0, I had to manually enter .5.
No idea why I thought it should be -1.5 clearly brain went on walk-a-bout.
Go back to that setting and click on the arrow to reset to -1.0 then we know everything is set as default.
If you require further help then please ask a question in the Thunderbird Support Forum because I have tried to discover if this is a bug or whether it is all about user not having correct settings which could have been advised etc via the Support Forum.
In my opinion, It seems there is no bug on this occasion.

The attached image is after opening Config Editor, navigating to Pixels, and clicking the arrow to reset the value to -1.0. It's not too much of a change visually.
The screen resolution is what Windows 10 reports in Settings > Display.
The 100% is the native resolution of the HP w2007 monitors I use, as reported by Windows 10.
When I open the monitor settings, they report the monitor is set to 1920 x 1080 (recommended) at 60Hz.
Sorry about including extra questions; I thought they may be related.
Michael
