Steps to reproduce:

Just running Thunderbird after a "variable time", it freezes. Have to shutdown through Windows Task Manager. Running it again is okay... until it freezes again. I am not able to understand what makes it freeze, but it began to happen after upgrading to 115. All later 115.x.x releases get the same problem. Profile has been used since years, NO add-on, default theme.

Actual results:

Freezing

Expected results:

Not freezing!

Are you using any calendars?
Have you tried disabling hardware acceleration in the Thunderbird settings?

Keywords: regression

No calendar,
And yes I disabled hardware acceleration in Thunderbird

I have exactly the same problem since version 115.

The application freezes faster if, for example, it connects to a VPN (without changing the gateway) and then disconnects from the VPN. Thunderbird will no longer wake up. There is no problem with a version lower than 115.

Also, if Thunderbird is not used for a long time, even without using a VPN, it will also freeze.

Thunderbird 115 on Windows 11 Pro.

Does it happen after Help > Troubleshoot Mode?

Yes. Even in this mode. It seems (from my user perspective) that some part of the program hangs on connectivity (which is interrupted for a while) and then the program cannot resume and freezes. I tried going back to the pre-115 version and the problem didn't occur for a full day of watching. I change VPN and connectivity very often.

Jirka, Thanks for this information. Unless reporter indicates networking it a fault, you will want a different bug report https://mzl.la/3RtmAks or file your own.
