from phonebook: "<a href="ldap://nsdirectory.netscape.com/dc=com">Import People Directory</a> With the touch of a button, Netscape Communicator users can give their browser's Personal Address Book the ability to access the People Directory database when searching for employee certificates." when I did this from mozilla, it opened up Outlook Express. here the link: ldap://nsdirectory.netscape.com/dc=com

In netscape 4.x, URL of ldap:// can display the ldap query result in browser window, So one may search some public infomation from a ldap server. Query syntax and search filter names is limited in Address Book, and Address Book will not handle ldap protocol. And one can import one or many contacts to AddressBook from a ldap query is also recommended. A url like "ldap://my.ldap.server/o=myorg?(objectclass=people)?sub?(ou=support)" will search all people in support department. LDAP query syntax is defined in rfc2255.
And this bug depends on Bug 205471 to support international ldap search.
