User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.3a) Gecko/20021216 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.3a) Gecko/20021216 Applying the colour #D4D0C8 to a text input box as background-color produces a white background colour. Yet using other colours extremely close, e.g. #D4D0C9 render the correct colour. It does not apply to other elements such as <div>'s. They render the colour correctly. This is a very strange bug and seemed to have appeared around the 12th December 2002. I am unable to put a precise date on it. But I noticed it about a week ago. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Create an <input type="text" style="background-color: #D4D0C8"> 2. View in Mozilla. 3. Cry. Actual Results: background-colour fails to render and renders as white. Expected Results: background-colour should render the specified hex rgb colour.
I can confirm and reproduce this bug on Win2K 20021216. I am sure that the bug did not happen on the December 1st build (20021201). The URL given is pretty much a reduced testcase. This is a weird bug. This bug might be related to bug 181490. -M

is this a problem only on Windows or on other platforms as well?
WFM WinXP 2002121308. Will try a 12/16 build.
WFM. 2002121608 / XP. (May be 2000 only?)
I can NOT reproduce this bug with 2002121608 on Win 2000. All boxes have about the same shade of grey (and it looks identical to IE5).
I can reproduce this with build 2002121704 Win2k. I have noticed that colour #D4D0C8 is the default colour for 3D elements in the Appearance settings. If you change the colour for 3D elements to #ff0000 for example, then the bug affect colour #ff0000.
Ah, nice catch, Sébastien! That's probably the reason why I don't see this bug: I have my own different color theme (light brown, not gray colors).
I just tried with standard Windows colors: now I also see this bug. (How can you all live in such a gray world??)
Taking, I know the fix for this. This will happen for whatever your threedface color is set to in Windows, which is usually #D4D0C8 under the classic theme. It should affect XP with Luna themes as well.

Depends on: 184359
Bug 184359 appears to have fixed this one (tested on Mozilla version 2003013108, Windows XP). Reason: Tested http://www.aligrant.com/tmp/moz/styles.html with 2003010508 and reproduced. Today's version appears fixed. Under Luna Theme (default, Blue), the color is: #ECE9D8, and that is chosen in Control Panel > Display Settings > Appearance > Advanced > "3d Objects" Its easier, imho, to just set it to classic theme in the appearance box on Windows XP to try this out. Andreas: I like Luna, but maybe these people are "zetas" ;-) http://www.crystalinks.com/grayeyes2.jpg :-) There is much diversity in the universe, and the earth is a good example of that (and of beings that have trouble accepting diversity). One person's trash is another's treasure. One person's nasty grey color is another's beautiful grey color... bleh! ;-) I gave you a filter string for email=bazookacarryingmonkeys

Did you really mean to reopen? Or to verify? In either case, a nice comment explaining things is appropriate...
sorry for the spam, I didn't see the dependency on bug 184359.

Yes, I was going to complain about that, but see that bz already has things covered.
