After bug 1856035, text in windows now appears correctly in macOS Sonoma. However, text still has a 'too-spaced-out' appearance in popups such as menus.
I have attached an example of the import menu from the Library window. As you can see, the text is much more spaced out than it should be. This also affects menus such as autofill.

Thanks for the report. To clarify, are you seeing this on an Intel-based Mac or an Apple Silicon system, or does it affect both?
This may turn out to be the same as bug 1721612.

I am seeing this on an Intel Mac. My Apple silicon machine is not retina-equipped so I can't confirm there.
To me, the characters appear to be rendering the same way as they did within browser windows before the fix in bug 1856035.
I've noticed this occurs in popups other than menus as well--also attached is a comparison of the site information panel for example.

I believe this should also fix at least some of what bug 1721612 describes, but the exact scope of the remaining issues there are a bit unclear to me; we might need to extend this to cover older macOS versions to fully resolve things.

Thanks @jfkthame! Once this is in Nightly I'll re-test across machines and system software and provide an update in bug 1721612.
