Details

I am using winnt and the configurable user agent strings work great, but viewer and xpviewer are reporting that I am using win95 and not NT.
Severity: normal → major
It's also reporting the User Agent version number wrongly. There is a *lot* of browser sniffing going on Out There. For the sake of making the job of us QA people easier, *please* could you change the default User Agent string to "mozilla 5.0"? Or "gecko" or "nglayout" or whatever, just not "Netscape 4.04"!!. (And yes, I know about NG_REQUEST_VER. But it's the default I'm on about.)
Status: NEW → ASSIGNED
The user-agent strings are currently just a hack to get things rolling. We definitely will revisit/fix them soon.
I have changed the default to 5.0 instead of 4.05. The WinNT detection is still not fixed.
Setting all current Open Critical and Major to M3
setting paulmac as QA contact for all gagan's bugs (sorry for the spam)
I think we should fix this for dogfood.

Don this is the useragent bug I was telling you about. Would be nice if you owned the user agent string.

Resolved as duplicate of bug #806. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 806 ***

Confirmed and marking as a dup.
This used to take place in the XP code for setting appname, appversion, etc. For temporary purposes this was put in Netlib. We need to get this back at some common place.
Changing all Networking Library/Browser bugs to Networking-Core component for Browser. Occasionally, Bugzilla will burp and cause Verified bugs to reopen when I do this in a bulk change. If this happens, I will fix. ;-)
Bulk move of all Networking-Core (to be deleted component) bugs to new Networking component.
Component: Networking → XP Apps
Product: Core → Mozilla Application Suite
