User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/119.0
Steps to reproduce:
In Thunderbird 115.5.0:
Create a new event and populate; invite attendees and add a new attendee to the list; Click "Send and close".
Actual results:
No email invite is sent out to the attendees.
Expected results:
An invite should have been sent to the attendees. I am aware of bug 1847493 (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1847493), but my understanding is that this should have been fixed in a 115.3 release.

It is generally working. What kind of calendar is it? Local or caldav?

No, it never works. This is with a caldav calendar.

Tested
- local calendar -> local calendar (all ok)
- google caldav -> 3rd party address (ok)
- google -> hotmail (didn't arrive?)
I don't think Thunderbird is doing anything wrong here. For caldav it's all up to the server what/if it sends or not.

Should the invites be sent out by the caldav server, not from Thunderbird?

That's the normal mode of operation for CalDAV. (I'm not sure what formal responsibilities there are.)

In which case, is this a manifestation of this other problem I am encountering, in which the calendar does not seem to sync: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1868780 ?
I am on TB 115.5.0, am using CALDAV calendar and suffered the issue, that no invitation at all was sent out with TB115 - that is fixed now.
But when I add an attendee to an event, then there is no invitation sent out to the new attendee and no updates are sent to the already invited ones although in the calendar settings "Prefer Client-Side Email scheduling" is set.
In my understanding TB should send out the invitations with "Prefer Client-Side Email scheduling" being set. They are sent out by TB for the initially invited attendees but not for attendees added later.
P. S. I just figured out that I can force TB to send an update to all attendees (even the ones added later) when changing the event status to confirmed. The next time I add an attendee I need to change the status to something else, like un-confirmed, and that's not very convenient for both the user and the attendees. But at least updates get sent out by TB so the function is there - it is just not triggered when a new attendee is added to the invitation list.

Tried setting "Prefer client-side email scheduling" for my google caldav calendar. Creating a new event, the invitee got an email (and another one from google's servers.)

Tried setting "Prefer client-side email scheduling" for my google caldav calendar. Creating a new event, the invitee got an email (and another one from google's servers.)
So far so good - please add now some additional attendees and check if they get an invitation too. The first thing works for me as well, the latter not.

I double checked with a google caldev calendar with "Prefer Client-Side Email scheduling" being set. Set up an event, invitation gets sent out. Added some attendee, neither invitation to new attendee nor updates to existing attendees are sent out.
Only because google sends out invitations on its own, the newly added attendee gets an invite. But that's something different as TB should send out invitations as well with "Prefer Client-Side Email scheduling" being set.
