User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:120.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/120.0

Steps to reproduce:

Went to a form with an input of type="text"

Actual results:

FireFox inserts an advert for 'Firefox Relay email mask'

This appears intermittent, but happens on focus

Expected results:

FireFox should not add adverts

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Toolkit::Password Manager' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

Component: Untriaged → Password Manager
Product: Firefox → Toolkit
Component: Password Manager → Autocomplete

Nothing to do with passwords. Dunno what bugbot was doing.

The severity field is not set for this bug.
:serg, could you have a look please?

Tom, can you share URL of this website? Firefox Relay shows only when we think this is a suitable place to create a new email mask.

If you aren't interested in it, just click on it and decline, it will remove offer from autocomplete and when you want to turn it on, you'd need to visit Settings.

share the URL of this website

That particular site, no, though it crops up all the time; I'll add the next public URL this ad is injected on when I see it.

What are the actual criteria so this is easier for me to do ?
For instance https://www.theregister.com/Author/Email/corrections?message=re:%20https%3A%2F%2Fwww.theregister.com/2024/01/02/mozilla_in_2024_ai_privacy/ does not trigger it on the "email" field (which is input type=text name=email)

just click on it and decline, it will remove offer

How am I meant to know what clicking it will do ? Why doesn't it link anywhere to provide any context. It's only by chance I happen to know it's even a Mozilla service being advertised, and not some random 3rd party company.

Why not check if I have a account on the other service, and only offer it if so ? This could be a one-off new user onboarding, for instance, rather than spamming wherever is thought "suitable".

Is there a bug somewhere with the UX teams reasoning on all this to save me (re)asking questions they must already have answered ?

Flags: needinfo?(bugzilla.mozilla.org)

Also doesn't trigger on https://help.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/help (select 'email' under 'how to contact') which is input id="email" name="email" value="" type="email" and so surely should be 'a suitable place'.

Are there some test cases for this feature from the original bug ? I did a search but couldn't find it.

I caught the ad displaying repeatedly on a site today and so grabbed a screen shot as requested.

It's all coded here, TLTR; it's detected by ML based on samples we managed to collect so far. That's why we want to get as many samples as possible.

I can see how this wording doesn't make it clear that you still have to opt-in or opt-out, I'll bring this up with the team.
