Details
Since Firefox 121 was released, trying to start the browser on macos via a command line using firefox-bin
instead of firefox
fails.
The first bad build seems to be https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/nightly/2023/11/2023-11-15-09-52-48-mozilla-central/
STRs:
- download the dmg in https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/nightly/2023/11/2023-11-15-09-52-48-mozilla-central/
- extract the .app and try to run Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin
ER: Firefox should start
AR: Firefox immediately shuts down with a Killed: 9
message
When trying to use mozregression, the issue doesn't occur, Firefox always starts.
But when downloading the dmgs from ftp.mozilla.org, the first bad build is 2023-11-15-09-52-48-mozilla-central. If that's correct then the regression pushlog is https://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/pushloghtml?fromchange=cee24679e2a2e085bdefdbd66106fa1a805db56d&tochange=d12a09b7c773efc37f5d0e37cc52339e25f07b6c
This leads to issues with scripts and tools which have been using firefox-bin (eg https://github.com/mozilla/geckodriver/issues/2144).

Andrew: Looking at the pushlog I noticed https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1839891 which could maybe have an impact here? Do you think it could be related to this issue?

Sorry that I've not seen that you filed this bug Julian. We have ongoing conversations already over on bug 1871447.
