Consistently over the past two weeks I have noted that a long press on the FireFox app icon in iOS and then selecting "new private tab" does not consistently open Firefox in a private window but rather public window. When it does work, the browser first opens a public window then transforms to private window (rather than automatically opening in private).

Additionally (perhaps cause for a different ticket), iOS no longer offers Firefox Private tab as a default browser (only Firefox Focus, which does not support multiple tabs and is very limited as a use case).

I am using Firefox 121.1 (37312) for iOS.

I just happened to catch up with Matt in the office and learned more about the issue. I would advocate for s2.

Is this still an issue?

I wasn't able to reproduce after Alex fix on deep links. I will ask QA to check it out an close it if needed.
