As part of bug 543435, I investigated the idea of omitting the initial about:blank document when it isn't detectable from the Web. That is, making the document in a XUL browser detectable as null in some cases in front-end code.

This worked surprisingly well for the purpose of getting a browser up and running, but for getting tests to pass, it didn't help and instead make even more tests fail.

Once bug 543435 has landed, we might want to pursue this as a performance matter. Hence, I'm uploading my patch here in order not to lose it.
