I also notice that when the page is zoomed out and the rendering is clipped zooming in restores the page to its initial state.

Should I file a separate bug about that?

I'm not able to reproduce this on a phone or a tablet.

That said, the test case here is the test case from bug 1549292, which is known to misbehave, so it's not greatly surprising to me that it behaves strangely in other ways too.

We can revisit this after bug 1549292 is fixed.
