User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.0.1) Gecko/20021209 Chimera/0.6+ Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.0.1) Gecko/20021209 Chimera/0.6+ Usually in OS X, the "Open File" modal window will disable most of the menus (except sometime "Edit" and "Help") so that the user will not be selecting things that shouldn't work when in the "Open" mode. Chimera instead disables individual items, and not all that should be. For instance the bookmarks menu remains active, but doesn't do anything when you select a bookmark. And the "Zoom Window" menu item in the "Window" menu remains active, but beeps when you select it. "Print" on the other hand, _does_ dim the whole menu bar, as one might expect (although this seems to prevent copying and pasting, which may be more of an issue in the "Open" modall window, in which someone may wish to paste into the "Go to" field). Aditionally, the bookmarks toolbar should dim like the main toolbar does when "Open" is activated, but does not. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Type command-O or select "Open File" from the file menu 2.Try out the menus in the menu bar Actual Results: None of the menus are grayed out. Many, but not all menu items are grayed out. Expected Results: Most menus should be grayed out, except for those with menu items that are relevent to the "Open" modal window. Bookmarks Toolbar should also be grayed out, since clicking on those bookmarks does not (and should not) work.
The Open File dialog need not disable all menus; see Apple's TextEdit, which behaves similarly to Chimera. I'd agree that Bookmarks should be disabled, though.

Ever confirmed: true
Summary: "Open File" modal window does not disable menus. → Disable Bookmarks menu when Open File dialog is showing
(I neglected to mention that I confirmed this using Chimera/2003021707.)
In OS X 10.2.6 there isn't any apple application that diables the main menu's when having the open menu open. Look at Safari, TextEdit, Mail. All of these applications have the same behaviour as Camino. I don't think this really is a bug.
It's true. The main menu bar is still in black and white, and it still drops down menus. So I guess it is the Print menu that has the anomolous behavior. Which explains why I can't copy and paste in the Print sheet (no edit menu), as I can in other applications. Most of the menus in Safari that drop down have grayed out contents. The bookmarks are initially not disabled, but if you select a bookmark from that menu, then the menu becomes disabled. TextEdit disables the contents of the file menu and most of the format menu. It leaves the Bold and Italic available, but they don't do anything. "Show Fonts" opens the fonts pallette behind the Open dialog.
Confirming on 2003080102 with 10.2.6. Book mark menu should be grayed.
Do you mean the contents of the BookMark Menu, or the menu item iteself?
Taking. This happens because the bookmarks menu does not auto-update.
